IOM Winter Series No 4. 4th January 2023
Concerns with the high water levels at the lake proved to be unfounded.
We set up base in the barn and sailed at that end of the lake, launching from the pontoon. This had the benefit of sailing in clear air and eventually gently rippling water.
As there was a large wind shadow at the clubhouse and start hut end of the bank, where we normally sail. Roger jumped into the boat and set an initial windward / leeward course, but with light conditions and three very slow races, we took a coffee break.
On it’s return the wind had picked up and had swung through 180 degrees, Brian altered the course to another windward / leeward, but in the opposite direction.
Although it should have been a handicap race day, due to the absence of any yellow fleet helms, it was decided to run as a normal race day and share the OOD duties.
As predicted earlier in the week we enjoyed perfect dry, bright ‘A’ suit conditions for the duration of the event. It remained steady and reliable without the flukey shifts that can be often experienced when sailing off the point. A very pleasant and good humoured day was enjoyed by those present.
Particularly for those suffering from withdrawal symptoms (cold turkey?) over the Christmas break. Proceedings were concluded at 3.00pm.
Hopefully if water levels drop to a satisfactory level we will be back to normal next Tuesday – see you then! Next Officer Of the Day: 9th January is Cliff.
